A great player in 1973 and a key figure in history of men’s and women’s tennis programs at NSU ... was All-Gulf South Conference and the GSC No. 1 champion in 1973 with a 19-4 record, and runner-up in doubles at No. 1 (with an 11-5 record, teamed with Carlos Blanco) … Demons were 11-3 and GSC runner-up …  a two-year JC All-American at Odessa … after a season at Austin Peay, was Coach Johnnie Emmons’ first star South American signee …  helped Coach Emmons attract players like Ricardo Acuna who raised NSU tennis onto the national Division I top 20 platform in late 1970s …  was our head women’s coach for 12 years while continuing to teach at East Natchitoches Elementary School … his teams excelled academically … best season was a 14-5 mark overall, 9-1 in the Southland, in 2004 …  had a 3.5 GPA earning his bachelor’s degree (1976) and also has a master’s degree (2000) from NSU.
