Crnkovic, a Zwolle native, was the only senior on the 1957-58 NSC basketball team and was named team captain. He helped lead the Demons to a share of the 1958 Gulf States Conference championship and made the Louisiana Sports Writers Association All-GSC first team, along with receiving Little All-American honorable mention. Crnkovic was named the 1958 Louisiana Invitational Tournament Most Valuable Player and made the All-Tournament team. He served a two-year stint in the Army, interrupting his playing career after his sophomore season. He returned to play in 1956-57 and scored 110 points as a junior.
