Graf was a professional athlete in two sports, baseball and football … a strong-armed and agile outfielder for the Demons from 1980-83, twice winning all-conference honors, and advanced to the Double-A level in the Montreal Expos system … accepted an offer to join the USFL's Houston Gamblers in 1985 but that league collapsed ... started at safety for the NSU football team from 1980-82, making a career-high 21 tackles against Central Michigan and intercepting future NFL star Neil Lomax in a 40-21 Demon win over Portland State in 1981 … the Mt. Pleasant, Texas product gave up football to focus on his baseball career in his senior season … had game-winning home run to help NSU beat top 10-ranked Tulane and made an over-the-wall catch to preserve a win over LSU at Alex Box Stadium.
