McCalister was head coach in volleyball and softball simultaneously from 1987-94, managed Prather Coliseum from 1987-93, and built a highly successful program during his tenure… posted a 245-199-2 (.552) record as softball coach with a 124-56-2 run from 1990-92 as the cornerstone … recruited and coached NSU’s first softball All-American, Rhonda Rube, the first softball player or coach enshrined in the Southland Conference  Hall of Honor (McCalister introduced her at the May 2018 ceremony) …  his Lady Demons won the 1991 SLC softball title … he kept the Lady Demon volleyball program competitive in its first years in the Southland Conference ... designed and oversaw the move from Highland Park to an on-campus softball facility, the Lady Demon Diamond.
