Under Hennessy's tutelage from 1957-59, the Demons took home three straight Mid-South Intercollegiate championships as well as both the Southern and Southwestern AAU championships in 1958 … Hennessy has been inducted into the U.S. Gymnastics Hall of Fame based on his subsequent work at Louisiana-Lafayette and the U.S. gymnastics program … he directed ULL’s programs from 1959-86, winning more than 10 National AAU Trampoline team championships and took home an NAIA title in 1969… Hennessy coached the U.S. team to world championships in 1964,1965, 1967, 1968, 1970, 1972, 1974, 1978 and 1980 … he led a U.S. team to compete in the Soviet Union in 1974 – the first U.S. team to compete in the Soviet Union … other honors include induction into the World Acrobatics Society Hall of Fame and the International Gymnastics Hall of Fame … the two-time AAU coach of the year was awarded the International Trampoline Federation Lifetime Membership Award in 1984, wrote three books on trampolining and gymnastics and served as a professional safety consultant for United States Diving, Inc., ABC Television, CBS Television among others.
