A four year letterman for Coach Walter Ledet’s powerhouse track and field program, Bankston helped the Demons win four straight Gulf States Conference championships … nicknamed “Doc” while a Demon, he won the GSC in the shot put in 1953, 1954, and 1955 and set a school and GSC record in 1955 … Bankston was an NAIA finalist in 1954 and 1955 and a SAAU finalist in 1955 … he won the prestigious Southwestern Relays shot put title in 1955 … a  three time All-GSC performer in the spring throwing the shot, “Doc” also earned letters from 1954 – 1955 as an end and tackle on the football team for Coach Harry Turpin.
