Fletcher served as play-by-play announcer for NSU sports in four decades before stepping aside to run for sheriff of Natchitoches Parish, an office he won in 1979 … helped launch the play-by-play careers of LSU's Jim Hawthorne and Lyn Rollins of Cox Sports TV, along with having tremendous influence on hundreds of NSU student-athletes and coaches … very few people have been so committed and caring for the athletic programs at Northwestern and Natchitoches as Fletcher, a Natchitoches native who grew up next door to Coach Harry Turpin  … for over 30 years Fletcher broadcast hundreds of football and basketball games and even track meets through the airwaves of a local radio station he owned (KNOC) … received N-Club Hall of Fame Lifetime Achievement Award … 2010 inductee in Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame … home radio booth at Turpin Stadium was named in his honor in 2009.
