A former walk-on from Benton, Frederick became a three-time All-American in the javelin (2000, 2001, 2003) who won three Southland Conference championships and the 1999 USA Junior national title … holds school record (with the “modern” javelin) with a 261-3 to win the NCAA Mideast Regional title in 2003 … he overcame a serious elbow injury while throwing 255-7 at the 2002 USA Outdoors, an injury that sidelined him until the next May’s Southland Outdoors, where he won his third consecutive conference title with a 231-5 mark … at the NCAA Outdoors, was fifth in 2000 and 2001, 12^th as a senior in 2003).
