Edwards, a star receiver for the Demons from 1986-89, started for Buffalo as a receiver in Super Bowl XXV and also played in Super Bowl XXVI as a kick returner and receiver. He helped the Demons win the 1988 Southland Conference football championship and the 1987 Gulf Star Conference outdoor track and field title.

He was a two-time All-America sprinter for coach Leon Johnson's Demons, finishing eighth at the 1987 NCAA Indoor Championships in the 55 meter dash and running the anchor leg on the 1987 4x100 meter relay team that finished eighth at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. The New Orleans native ran on three conference championship relay teams and won the 1988 Southland Conference 100 meter dash title (10.47).

Edwards was named to the Top 100 Demon Players of All-Time roster for the centennial celebration of the sport at NSU in 2007. He collected 94 career catches (fifth all-time) and 1,525 receiving yards (eighth in school history).
