The No. 5 selection in the 1951 NBA Draft, the Bienville Parish native developed from a walk-on to perhaps the greatest player in school history … McConathy's No. 14 Demon jersey is retired …  from 1947-51, McConathy averaged 16.3 points in 67 games, including a 21.6 average as a senior … set a single-season school record with 562 points in 1950-51, posting a pair of career-best 35 point games against Centenary and Southern Mississippi … invited to play in the College All-Star Game in Chicago, where his performance led to his high NBA Draft selection by Syracuse …teamed with older brother J.L. on the 1948-49 team (23-5) that was coach H. Lee Prather’s finest, reaching the NAIA semifinals …his pro career was stymied by involvement with the Louisiana National Guard during the Korean Conflict … won a state championship as a coach at Bossier High School in 1960 … a member of the Louisiana Basketball Hall of Fame … on Top 100 Demons of the Century roster chosen for 2012-13 basketball centennial celebration.
