The Demons’ first All-American in baseball, Turner was a slugging third baseman whose top season came in his junior year (1967), when he was fifth in the nation with a .411 batting average (.443 in Gulf States Conference play) … a Shreveport-Fair Park product, Turner was a three-time All-GSC selection … tripled in an amazing four consecutive at-bats in a 1967 contest against UL Lafayette … led the 1967 Demons to the GSC championship under coach Jack Clayton … that team was Northwestern’s first to advance to NCAA postseason play, making the College Division Midwest Regional … also played on the Demons’ unbeaten 1966 football team, coached by Clayton.
