A four-time All-America distance runner, Trammel was so talented that 1972 Olympic marathon gold medalist Frank Shorter came to Natchitoches to train with him … the New Orleans native, All-South in high school, won NAIA District 30 cross country titles from 1972-1976 … he earned All-America accolades at the NAIA cross country championships; in both the NCAA College Division and the NAIA in the 10,000 meter run; and indoors at the NCAA College Division championships in the two-mile run  … became Louisiana’s first-ever cross country collegiate All-American … set the state record (29:10.09) in the 10,000 … led Northwestern to the 1974 Gulf South Conference cross country team title … after his Demon career, he won marathons in Baton Rouge and at the Florida Relays, the Louisiana 25k state championship, ran in the 1980 USA Olympic Marathon trials, and was sixth in the AAU national marathon … won multiple state high school cross country championships at Quitman and Benton, earning 2014 National Boys CC Coach of the Year honors.
