Seward formed a deadly backfield combination as a running back with fellow Hall of Famer Clayton Cornish (quarterback) … specialty was runs around the end in which he used his speed … was a dangerous pass catcher as well … led NSU to a pair of “Little Four” titles in 1930 and 1932 (vs. La. Tech, Louisiana College and ULL) along with seven-win seasons, a school record at the time … played some quarterback in 1931-32, including quarterbacking a 92-0 drubbing of El Dorado Junior College … part of a 1932 defense which shut out five opponents … in track and field, part of a record-setting mile relay team (3:24.90) in 1929 … accomplished sprinter in 440 and 880 relays as well as the javelin … part of two school records in the 440 yard relay (43.5) and the 880-yard relay (129:9) in 1931 … set NSU’s javelin record (182-6 feet) in 1932 … president of the S.A.K. Literary Society.
