The 2018 N-Club Leadership Award recipient, Pierce has served his alma mater for over 50 years … a former manager/trainer under Coach Jack Clayton for the Demon football team during his undergraduate days at Northwestern, Pierce has overseen NSU Athletics since the mid-1970s, ultimately as Vice President of External Affairs since 1990 … has worked behind the scenes but with significant impact with administrators and coaches as NSU Athletics has expanded in sport offerings and staff size after attaining NCAA Division I membership in 1977 and being the first Louisiana institution to offer full athletic scholarships for women in 1975 … Pierce served as Southland Conference officer, including a term as conference president … Pierce is also responsible for the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame’s location in Natchitoches, serving as chairman from 1971 when he spearheaded creation of a display in Prather Coliseum, until 1990 when he became an NSU vice president … he was part of a USTA championship tennis squad in the 1990s.
