Turner is regarded as one of the most skilled athletes in Demon football history. Three-times All-Gulf Star Conference, Turner was so talented that he played safety as a senior after starring at receiver in the previous two seasons, leading the Demons in that category during 1984-85 while snaring a combined 8 touchdown grabs. In his final season, moved to defense, the Monroe-Wossman product made 62 tackles, 7 breakups and 4 interceptions, and also had 10 receptions on offense.

A fourth-round 1987 NFL Draft pick (New York Giants) as a receiver, he played seven seasons and started in Super Bowl XXV for the NFL champion Giants.
