King, a Springhill native, was selected in 2007 as part of the Top 100 Demons Football Players of the Century roster when NSU celebrated its football centennial.

He was a four-year starter who played all five offensive line posts in one game. He won All-America honors as a senior in 1990 at center.  He played guard on the 1988 Demons' squad that won the Southland Conference championship and reached the national playoff quarterfinals while earning a No. 8 national ranking.

Twice and All-Louisiana selection, King was also a two-time Academic All-Distric 6 honoree.  He turned down an appointement to the U. S. Military Academy to play for Sam Goodwin at Northwestern. He is now a highly-successful head coach at Longview (Texas) High School.
