Son of a high school coach, Carpentier rocketed up the depth chart in spring practice and was the No. 1 quarterback for the last 8 workouts after starter Ricky Joe Meeks was sidelined with an injury. Charpentier demonstrated uncanny presence in the huddle and in action. He is a very accurate passer who knows where to go with the ball. He handles pressure well. Meeks begins the preseason as the No. 1 quarterback but Coach Stoker expects to use both players during at least the first half of the season, if not all year.

High School: Playing for his father, Sonny, at Teurlings Catholic, Roch earned a district championship in all four years of play...His teams combined for a 41-10 record in his career with three state quarterfinal playoff appearances...Earned first team all-parish honors as a senior after throwing for 2800 yards 29 touchdowns...Lettered four years in basketball as well and earned first team all-district honors his senior season...Graduated with a 3.3 grade point average and made honor roll all four years.
