Ranked as the No. 5 safety in the nation by the Sports Network, Washington has been an outstanding figure in the Demons secondary for three seasons. Smart and hard-hitting, he sets the tone for the Purple Swarm defense. The son of a police chief, Washington runs the secondary and calls the defensive signals from his safety spot. A four-year starter, he added a new dimension to his game -gritty toughness- playing through a painful sprained knee late last season. He has been incredibly productive with 258 career tackles and should join just a handful of Demons ever to record 300 or more in his career, while also ranking among the all-time best in pass breakups. A tremendous defender against the run and a dangerous force in the Demons blitz packages, Washington has returned two interceptions for touchdowns, one 35 yards in a 2004 win over Appalachian State and a 66-yarder last year against Southeastern Louisiana in the Demons' homecoming win. He is a film room junkie.
