Biography

A coaches' son who has a command of the offense, a great knack for leadership, and a playful approach that keeps teammates loose, Meeks is the No. 1 quarterback after two seasons as the understudy. He missed the second half of spring practice with a thumb injury sustained when his throwing hand hit a helmet during a scrimmage but has clearly made a full recovery. Meeks is an outstanding golfer and all-around athlete who will also be an Academic All-American nominee. He was the Demons' punter in his redshirt freshman season.

Honors: SLC Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll, Fall 2004, 2005, Spring 2005...Athletic Honor Roll-Gold (GPA 3.50-3.99), Fall 2004; Silver (3.00-3.49), Spring 2005.

2005: Played in seven games completing 31-of-51 passes for 302 yards and a touchdown...Got the start against McNeese State and threw for a 173 yards on 18-of-31 passing with a touchdown...Was 8-for-13 for 96 yards against North Dakota State...Had a passing efficiency of 113.07 while completing 60.8 percent of his passes.

2004: Saw limited action at quarterback, with three incompletions and three rushes for a net of eight yards (long of 20), but was a steady punter with a 35.5 average...Had a long punt of 51 yards and only 15 of his 51 punts were returned.

Before NSU: Redshirted as a true freshman at SMU in Dallas...Transferred following spring practice in 2004.

High School: Outstanding all-around athlete who excelled in five sports at Mount Vernon (Texas) High School...One of the top throwing quarterbacks in the state...Completed 135-of-242 passes for 2,027 yards and 16 TDs as his team went 9-2 his senior year...Passed for over 5,000 yards in his career as a three-years starter...Also averaged more than 40 yards per punt...Three-time District MVP on offense...Three-time first team all-district selection as a punter and earned that honor twice as a placekicker...First team All-State Class 3A punter as a junior and senior...Was an honorable mention selection at quarterback his final two seasons...Member of the Dallas Morning News/Rivals100.com (No. 71) state Top 100 list...A three-star prospect and the No. 27 pro-style quarterback prospect in the nation by Rivals...Also listed as the No. 94 prospect in the Midlands region by Rivals...Coached in high school by his dad, Dicky...Also lettered in basketball, golf, baseball, and track and field during his high school career...Team's leading scorer and rebounder in hoops and a state-qualifying, scratch golfer...Also an honor roll student...Chose SMU over a host of offers, including La.
