2016 Season: Appeared in three games as a junior after working his way back from a preseason hand injury … made a season-high two tackles against Sam Houston State … also made one tackle against Abilene Christian and Stephen F. Austin in the final two games of the season.
2015 Season: Appeared in all 11 games with one start … started against Abilene Christian (11/7), where he recorded three tackles (1.5 sacks) … totaled 23 tackles with 3.5 tackles for loss … added three sacks and two quarterback hurries … career-high four tackles vs. Sam Houston State (11/14) and McNeese (10/24).
2014 Season: Made five appearances… collected four tackles (two solo) … had two tackles against Nicholls, one against Missouri State and one against Stephen F. Austin.
2013 Season: Redshirted.
High School: Three-time All-Southwest Louisiana selection by the Lake Charles American Press … four-year all-district pick … topped 100 tackles as a senior … also lettered four years in basketball … played for former McNeese All-American and Alexandria native Reggie Nelson … Beta Club and FCA member.
Personal: Son of Derrick and Keri Wheeler … two older brothers, Aaron and Ryan … his relative, Bruce Seale, played for the NBA’s Seattle SuperSonics … homeland security major interested in a career as a juvenile probation officer … born May 19, 1994 … nickname is “Zay.”
