2016 Honorable Mention All-Southland Conference
2016 Season: Earned respect of league coaches and honorable mention All-Southland status as the Demons’ second-leading tackler with 74 stops in his NSU debut … also broke up three passes … led the team in tackles three times, with 12 at Lamar, 10 vs. Incarnate Word, and 10 at McNeese … played all 97 defensive snaps at Lamar … 6 tackles at Baylor, UCA … 7 at Southeastern, vs. Nicholls, at SFA.
Before NSU: Two-time second-team all-state junior college safety who tallied five interceptions in his East Central CC career … Most Valuable Player in the Heart of Texas Bowl, leading East Central to a win against Kilgore (Texas) College … had six tackles and returned a fumble 90 yards for a touchdown in the bowl game win … finished his sophomore season with 48 tackles (38 unassisted), 4 interceptions and 2 pass breakups … also returned a kickoff 30 yards … as a freshman, recorded a team-best 65 tackles (52 unassisted), one sack and intercepted one pass in nine games.
High School: Two-way standout at Seminary (Miss.) High School where he was the team’s offensive and defensive MVP… threw for 3,585 yards and accounted for 52 total touchdowns (36 passing, 16 rushing) on offense and made 262 tackles (30 for loss), forced 10 fumbles, recovered 5 fumbles in his career … graduated with a 3.0 GPA … also lettered in basketball and was a member of the Beta Club.
Personal: Born Sept. 19, 1995 … son of Lisa and Alfred Balthazor … mother is a shipping clerk … father is a pastor … two siblings, brother Justin and sister Kandace … undecided major … life’s ambition is to “play in the NFL and raise a family.”
