1988-89 Postseason Guide: Named to the honorable mention all-conference team, after taking second team honors as a junior ... tough, gritty ball handler who far outplays size ... has started every game since James Smith became head coach ... owns Northwestern State's season assist mark, surpassing the old standard of 237 by one the last game of the SLC tournament against Stephen F. Austin (3/11) .. has averaged 8.2 assists per game over the last two years, ranking fifth nationally this season with her 8.4 average, which is tops in the SLC .. her career high of 16 came in contest with Miami (12/3), and has dished off for double digits in nine games ... obviously not out there to score, Efferson has scored over 10 points on nine occasions this year, with the season high of 20 coming against Miami ... career high of 28 came in a 96-90 loss to Stephen F. Austin (2/18) .. has put in 40 full minutes in wins against Missouri (12/30), Northeast La. (1/14 and 3/10), Stephen F Austin (2/16), while leading one losing effort versus LCU (3/4) ... season high of seven rebounds came vs. Mississippi College (12/16) ... believe it or not, "E" got two blocked shots as a junior, coming against Northeast Louisiana (3/11)

General: Established herself last year as one of the top point guards in the Southland Conference and runs NSU's fast-breaking offense .. currently third on all-time assist lead, needs just 28 to take over second place.

Head Coach James Smith: "Michelle has improved more than anyone over the past two years. Her confidence level is up and her shooting has improved greatly. She has excellent floor knowledge, is a great floor leader and has the quickness to be an outstanding point guard."

1987-88: Her coming out year ... ended year ranked fifth nationally in assists per game (8.2) ... season total of 229 was second most in Lady Demon history, but average was highest of all-time (previous high was 7.4 set by Teressa Thomas in 1985-86) ... had eight assists or better in 21 games (out of 28 games played) with seven of those contests featuring 10 assists or more ... third highest scorer among all Lady Demons, nearly tripling her career scoring average (2.8 at the start of campaign) to 7.5 for the year ... rebound total of 90 was 48 'bounds higher than her previous career total ... tossed in 25 three-pointers in 76 attempts, both of which are season and career records ... reached double figures in scoring in eight games ... hit two key three pointers down the stretch to help pull out 96-92 overtime win over United States International in first round of Nevada-Reno Tournament (12/17) ... best all-around game came in narrow 96-90 February 18 loss to Stephen F. Austin ... pumped in 28 points on 12 of 19 (three of five from three point range) effort from the floor with four rebounds and seven assists .. 51 steals were second best on squad ... honorable mention all-Southland Conference for her play.

1986-87:  Upped both scoring average and assist average over totals registered during freshman year .. 3.0 scoring average included two double-digit efforts of ten points (vs. Arkansas Baptist, 1/10 and Texas Southern, 1/28) that tied her career high ... assist average doubled from 1.4 in 1985-86 to nearly 3.0 (2.9) ... passed of for season high nine assists in decisive 96-67 win over Southeastern Louisiana (2/6) ... tallied at least two assists in 15 games ... increased shooting percentage from the floor.

1985-86:  Averaged 2.5 ppg in 17 contests ... had 11 assists (then a career high) vs. Pan American in first round of Lady Demons Christmas Classic (12/5) ... scored twn points against Hawaii-Pacific (3/1) at NSU set school scoring record with 134 points ... missed just seven shots (17-24) from the foul line for 70.8 freebie percentage mark.

High School: Began prep career at Redemptorist High before transferring to Seabreeze High School in Daytona Beach, Florida ... an all-district, all-county and all-conference player who also earned second team all-state honors while being named to the Central Florida All-Star team .. as a senior, averaged 19.4 ppg and six assists, setting school record in just two years ... played in Korea with Florida all-star team following prep graduation. 

Personal: Will also play softball at Northwestern State ... off the athletic level, she was awarded the State Art Award twice ... daughter of James and Cathy Efferson and will major in either nursing or commercial art at NSU
