Rene is an athlete " who gives 100% all the time," said Coach Pierson. A freshman from Sulphur High School, Rene came to the squad as a walk-on and is expected to give added depth at the forward spot. She is a fundamentally sound player. She was an excellent high school player at Sulphur and she makes a great contribution to the entire women's athletic program.

Earning letters in tennis, volleyball, basketball, and softball made Rene and all-around athlete as a prep. Her teams were district champs in basketball and softball along with being state semi-finalist in softball. The 5'4" guard was voted most improved in basketball during her prep career along with winning best defensive and sportsmanship honors in softball.

"Rene will give us added depth," coach Pat Pierson stated. "She can play either guard or forward, and is an excellent passer. We can count on Rene to be a play-maker on offense because of her passing ability."

Richard helped her squad to a 24-4 record last season. She was also named most improved player during the '80-81 campaign. And that is no surprise to Pierson...

"Rene continues to improve," Pierson continued. "Especially on defense. She has an excellent attitude and is a hard worker."

Richard, like many freshman, is unsure of her future plans after graduation, however, may opt for a career in the business world.
