Game Recap: Lady Demon Softball | | Bud Denega, Sports Information Graduate Assistant

Softball falls twice during Day 2 of Wooo Pig Classic

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — The Northwestern State softball team juggled its lineup quite a bit during Day 2 of the Wooo Pig Classic at Bogle Park. However, that adjustment didn't fruit much production at the plate.

The Lady Demons dropped a 5-0 decision to Kansas before falling to No. 20 Arkansas 13-2 in five innings. The losses push NSU's record to 6-6 on the season.

Northwestern State completes play at the tournament Sunday. The Lady Demons will battle Kansas at 11 a.m.

Kansas 5, NSU 0

Freshman designated player Laney Roos — who has been inserted into a couple starting lineups at the Wooo Pig Classic — led NSU at the dish. She had a pair of hits, one which was a double.

Freshman Kat Marshall extended her hit streak to four games, and viewing the season as a whole she's logged a hit in eight of the Lady Demons' 12 games. Senior outfielder Elise Vincent laid claim to the other NSU hit.

The Jayhawks plated two runs in the bottom of the first and another three in sixth. That was enough for starter Hailey Reed who went six innings, giving up two hits with one strikeout.

No. 20 Arkansas 13, NSU 2 (5 innings)

A day after scoring five runs against the Razorbacks, and four in the first inning, the Lady Demons couldn't conjure up the same type of success Saturday. NSU did, however, manage a couple runs in the top half of the fifth inning.

Vincent and freshman Keely DuBois registered the RBIs for the Lady Demons. DuBois' single scored senior outfielder Kaitlyn St. Clair who reached on a single to lead off the inning. Freshman outfielder Makenzie Chaffin recorded the other hit in the inning.

Arkansas took the early lead with one run in the bottom of the first inning. The Razorbacks added five more in the second and another seven runs in the fourth. Mary Haff started and completed the first four innings, surrendering just the one hit and striking out six.
