Box Score FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — The Northwestern State team created some late-game magic Sunday during the final day of the Wooo Pig Classic at Bogle Park. However, it wasn't enough magic.
The Lady Demons fell to Kansas 6-2. The loss drops NSU to 6-7 on the season.
Sophomore catcher Alexis Perry represented the late firepower for NSU. She launched a two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning.
The homer — Perry's second of the tournament — scored freshman Makenzie Chaffin who reached on a walk. Junior second baseman Cayla Jones laid claim to the other NSU hit with a single in the sixth.
Sophomore Bronte Rhoden received the nod to start Sunday. She twirled five scoreless innings before yielding two runs, one earned, in the top of the sixth. Rhoden finished with six strikeouts over five innings and the loss dropped her to 1-2 on the season.
The Jayhawks tallied all six of their runs in the sixth inning. That was enough for Lexi Mills who went the distance, surrendering two earned runs and five walks with eight strikeouts.
Northwestern State eyes a return to form for the opening of Southland Conference play. The Lady Demons travel to Nicholls for a three-game set Friday and Saturday.
