NATCHITOCHES – The Northwestern State softball team fell to first-place Texas State, 9-0 in six innings Friday night in Southland Conference action at the Lady Demon Diamond Complex.
Tara McKenney knocked a pair of hits for NSU (19-27, 7-12 SLC) to account for all the offense. She singled up the middle in the first inning and ripped a double to leftfield in the fourth to tally her team-leading 17th multi-hit game of the season.
The contest was scoreless through four innings as Kylie Roos (8-11) held Texas State (32-15, 15-2 SLC) to three hits at that point of the game. The Bobcats did not score their first run until the fifth inning when Brooke Baker reached on a RBI fielder's choice.
Texas State broke the game open in the sixth inning by scoring eight runs on eight hits, two errors and a walk. The Bobcats sent 14 batters to the plate which was highlighted by a home run from Anna Hernandez and a three RBI double by Selena Hernandez.
Roos pitched 5.1 innings and took the loss after striking out a pair, and Sara Aasness tossed a scoreless 0.2 inning of relief.
Chandler Hall (19-6), who is 10-0 in conference play and is the only undefeated pitcher in SLC games, fired a complete-game shutout and struck out seven.
The Lady Demons will look to split the series on Saturday with a 1 p.m. contest. Seniors Kelee Grimes, Samantha Roberts and Tiffany Ward will be honored before the game with a Senior Day presentation.
