FAYETTEVILLE, Arkansas – Blair Beard posted a 3-for-3 day with a trio of singles, but the Northwestern State softball team fell 6-0 to Arkansas Saturday evening at the Arkansas Fastpitch Invitational at Bogle Park.
NSU (2-12) fell behind when Arkansas (10-2) scored four runs in the third inning, capped by a three-run homer by Amanda Geile. Kylie Roos (1-7) let up four runs on four hits in three innings and took the loss, while Chelsea Cohen (4-2) went the distance to earn the win.
Beard scattered her hits all over the field. She placed one down the right field line in the first inning, ripped one up the middle in the third and reached on an infield single in the sixth.
Sam Roberts kept her momentum going at the plate with a double in the fourth inning. Candice Biggs reached safely for her fourth consecutive game with a single to leftfield in the fifth.
Sara Aasness pitched three innings of relief, giving up two runs on three hits and registering a strikeout.
The Razorbacks recorded their final two runs in the sixth frame when Devon Wallace cracked a two-run homer.
The Lady Demons will conclude the Arkansas Fastpitch Invitational on Sunday at 10:30 a.m. against Tennessee State in the third-place game.
