NATCHITOCHES – The Northwestern State tennis program added two top-notch freshmen and an accomplished collegiate player in its three-member signing class, head coach Jonas Brobeck announced Thursday.

Paige Wise was the Player of the Year in Conference Carolinas as a freshman for Division II Francis Marion (S.C.) this past season.

Argentina's Sofia Garcia and Netherlands' Renske Ubachs both ranked highly in their age groups in their respective countries and will begin as incoming freshmen at NSU this fall.

"We are very excited about this recruiting class as Sofia, Renske and Paige are all great players that will continue to help us compete for Southland Conference titles," said Brobeck, who led the Lady Demons to a regular season title in his second season. "More importantly, they are wonderful people with values that will only strengthen our culture and team dynamic.

"We can't wait to have them here in August and see them start competing for the Lady Demons."

Wise posted a 17-0 record this spring in the No. 1 singles slot for a Patriot squad that went 14-6.

The South African native was voted the ITA Rookie of the Year for the Southeast Region.

Garcia is ranked in the Top 25 among all female players in Argentina and top three in her age group. Her universal tennis rating stands at 9.4.

Ubachs stands in the top 15 in her age group in the Netherlands with a universal rating of 9.1.

Newcomers played a large role in NSU's championship team this past spring as freshmen occupied three of the top four singles slots.
