HUNTSVILLE, Texas – The Northwestern State tennis team completed a clean sweep of the Bearkat Invitational hosted by Sam Houston on Sunday.

The Northwestern trio of Honoka Umeda, Athina Grigoriadou and Nico Tagami went a combined 3-0 in the finale of the three-day event.

"It was a great weekend for the girls," fourth-year head coach Marcos Morelli said. "They applied a lot of what they worked on during the past few weeks."

Umeda, who made her fall debut this weekend, teamed with Grigoriadou to defeat Lamar's Jevrosmia Mitic and Varvara Popadina, 6-2, in the Lady Demons' lone doubles match of the day.

In singles play, Grigoriadou scored a straight-set victory against Stephen F. Austin's Juliane Koschinski, 6-4, 6-1, to complete a 3-0 week for the sophomore from Peraia, Makedonia, Greece.

Tagami, a freshman from Toyoyama-cho, Japan, also won her singles match in straight sets, sweeping Sam Houston's Sara Khamitova, 6-0, 6-0.

Tagami also went 3-0 on the weekend as Northwestern did not drop a match at the tournament.
