DALLAS, Texas – The Northwestern State tennis team finally had its long-awaited day in court with SMU, although perhaps achieving a result that was less than desirable.

NSU (4-4, 3-3 SLC) was swiftly dispatched by SMU (13-7, 4-0 AAC), falling 7-0 to the Mustangs.  

Despite the results settling entirely in favor of SMU, head coach Jonas Brobeck saw improvement today in a team which has continued to elevate itself with each passing contest.

"Once again I thought we showed out in doubles, even though we lost the point," Brobeck said. "We were able to set the tone and put ourselves in a situation to win the doubles point against a very good SMU squad. Unfortunately, we still have issues starting out singles the way we want to. When you allow a good team like SMU to dictate pace and get [your team] playing on their back foot, the results will reflect that."

Emilija Dancetovic continues to be the anomaly for this Lady Demons squad, as she was the only NSU player on the day to force a third set. Herself and opponent Kiana Graham's match determined to which team the final point would fall. The ultimate set resulted in a super tiebreaker in which Graham edged out Dancetovic 10-7, completing the Mustangs' clean sweep of NSU.

On the No. 3 doubles court, Dancetovic and partner Dorota Szczygielska's match against Nicole Petchey/Winslow Huth went unfinished, resulting in the pair remaining undefeated in doubles through eight matches.

"Getting to play a team as talented as SMU is definitely beneficial for us," Brobeck said. "It was an excellent opportunity to test ourselves as we enter the final weeks of play, and we're looking forward to bringing home the days lessons for practice on Monday."

NSU returns home for a standalone match Tuesday, March 23 2:00 p.m. at the Jack Fisher Tennis Complex against ULM.
