Lady Demons aim to open season at home against LSUA

NATCHITOCHES -- Mother Nature has thrown everything it has and more at the Northwestern State tennis team so far this season. Despite constant adversity, the Lady Demons' mission and attitude remains unchanged.

The team, along with head coach Jonas Brobeck, is eager to step out onto the courts at 1 p.m. Tuesday against LSU-Alexandria in what will now be their season opener at the Jack Fisher Tennis Complex. The Lady Demons aim to build some momentum heading into Southland Conference play this weekend against Lamar and Texas A&M Corpus Christi.

Despite being unable to practice outdoors last week because of weather complications across the region, the team worked out indoors, focusing on footwork, balance, and racket exercises in order to stay sharp as they await a chance to open their season.

Northwestern State originally was scheduled to start the 2021 season at LSUA on Jan. 30. In the first month, the Lady Demons have seen matches lost to weather and to the ever-present COVID-19 pandemic.

No strangers to the opposition this weekend, the Lady Demons return to competition seeking to build upon their continued success against LSUA, having dominated the Generals in their brief history of play to the tune of an 8-0 all-time record.
