NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Senior sprinter
De'Shalyn Jones swept the women's 100 and 200 meter dashes for two of Northwestern State's four first-place finishes Saturday in sub-par weather on the final day of the Carl Kight Invitational track and field meet hosted by Stephen F. Austin.
Despite weather that hovered around the low 40s and drizzling rain throughout the day, Jones won both the 100 (11.85) and 200 (24.03) races.
Tre'Darius Carr gave NSU first in the men's 100 (10.50).
Braneshia Payton-Howard won the women's 100 hurdles (14.22).
NSU posted 15 top-eight finishes Saturday, although most of the team's best sprinters, hurdlers and jumpers did not compete or limited their action due to the conditions . A day earlier, Northwestern competitors won another four events and earned 16 places in the top eight.
Saturday,
Marquise Foster came close to tying his school record in the men's hammer, throwing 187-6 for second.
Kie'Ave Harry gave NSU a 1-2 finish in the men's 100, running 10.55.
Jasmine Hall finished fifth in the 100 (12.42) and also came in sixth in the 200 (25.41).
Kylie Nodorft ran a personal record and placed fifth (25.17) in the 200. Nodorft also ran seventh in the 100 (12.59)
Freshmen
Jasmine Dansby and
Hayden Robertson both rounded up the top-eight with eighth-place finishes in the women's and men's 800. Dansby ran 2:24.48 and Robertson 2:01.20.
NSU will travel to Monroe next Saturday for the Warhawk Classic at Louisiana-Monroe. The only home track appearance this spring is the Leon Johnson NSU Invitational on April 28 at the Walter P. Ledet Track Complex.
