Heimerman named Co-Women's Coach of the Year, highlighting NSU All-Louisiana selections

7/23/2025 10:08:00 AM

NATCHITOCHES—After leading the Northwestern State women's track and field team to another Southland Conference indoor/outdoor championship sweep, Mike Heimerman was named the All-Louisiana Co-Women's Coach of the Year to highlight NSU on the All-Louisiana teams, announced Wednesday.

Heimerman led the NSU women to its second straight sweep of the indoor and outdoor SLC championships, including a 63-point dominating victory at the outdoor meet in May.

His teams have won five of the six conference championships in the last three seasons, the first five in the NSU women's program's history.

Heimerman shared the honor with LSU's Dennis Shaver, whose team recorded a total of 25 All-American honors with two Tigers on the Bowerman Watch List in 2025 and two SEC champions.

While Heimerman was a sensational leader of the Lady Demons, he needed a strong team—and it showed, as his women earned nine All-Louisiana spots of the 12 earned by NSU, including a pair of first teamers.

Shakera Williams (shot put) and Raven-Symone Jarrett (heptathlon) each stand atop the state in those events.

Jarrett posted a score of 5414, which not only was a personal best for her, but also smashed the school record to win the gold at the SLC Championships.

Williams also earned her first team spot at the SLC outdoor meet, tossing a 51-2.75 to claim the gold. She was joined on the podium at the conference meet and joined on the Louisiana All-Conference Team by Shanice Hutson, who took second team honors after throwing a 149-6 in front of the home crowd at the Leon Johnson NSU Invitational.

Jarrett is the lone NSU athlete to earn All-Louisiana in multiple open events, also doing so in the 100-meter hurdles.

The senior ran a 13.49 to earn a spot on the second team.

Rounding out the individual winners is Second Team All-American Maygan Shaw, who broke the school and the Southland Conference record in the 400-meter dash, clocking a 51.19 at the LSU Alumni Gold.

As well as making All-Louisiana as an individual, Shaw also made it as a part of both relay teams.

In the 4x400 relay, the quartet of Shaw, Tranasia Jones, Samari Finney and Margaret Conteh ran a 3:31.79 at the NCAA East Regional, narrowly missing out on nationals by one spot, but earned Second Team All-Louisiana.

Shaw and Finney were joined by Dynia Lewis and Sileena Farrell in the 4x100 that earned Third Team All-Louisiana after a 44.88 to win the gold at the SLC Championships.

Rounding out the women's All-Louisiana selections are a pair of jumpers who made it to the NCAA East First Round, Finney (long jump) and Jaslyn Smith (triple jump).

In addition to making it as a member of both relay teams, Finney earned second team honors in the long jump after recording a jump of 20-9.25 to claim gold at the SLC Championships.

Just a day apart from Finney's gold, Smith did the same in the triple jump, as her jump of 42-0.5 earned her a Third Team All-Louisiana selection.

Shaw wasn't the only All-American on this list from NSU, as freshman Roy Morris earned second team honors after posting a 24-11.25 at the Leon Johnson NSU Invitational.

He ended the season becoming the second NSU freshman in three years to reach nationals and first to be an All-American since 2011.

Morris wasn't the only freshman making headlines, as Bruce Boon earned third team honors in the decathlon with his gutsy effort at the SLC Championships, scoring a 6645, claiming the bronze by one point.

The men's 4x100 relay also made the third team, as Galen Loyd, Mikkel Johansson, Elijah Rowe and Tavis Wilson) clocked a 39.45 at the LSU Alumni Gold.

LSU dominated the superlatives, winning eight of the 10 awards, if you include Shaver tying the women's coach of the year with Heimerman.
