TOKYO—Djimon Gumbs had a sensational career at Northwestern State and now he is off to show the world what he showed NSU fans for three seasons.

Gumbs, representing his native British Virgin Islands, earned a spot in the track and field world championships in the men's shot put.

His event begins at 8:55 p.m. CST on Saturday and he will be in group B of the two groups.

During his time at NSU, he earned three school records—indoor men's shot put and outdoor men's shot put and discus.

In addition to his records, he made the NCAA Championships in three events, one indoor and two outdoor.

He reached the outdoor regionals in all three years, as well as All-Louisiana.

Gumbs won seven gold medals, including the outdoor shot put all three seasons and his indoor shot put his last two seasons with the Demons.

In addition to his gold medals, he also took home a pair of silvers and a bronze during his NSU outdoor championship career.

Perhaps his most cherished record was the shot put mark in his final season with a toss of 66-7 at the 2024 Corky/Crofoot Shootout, breaking a 42-year-old record.

The top 12 reach the final Saturday, which occurs on Sunday at 7:10 a.m. CST.
