PITTSBURG, Kansas – Northwestern State junior All-America sprinter
Micah Larkins posted the nation's fifth-fastest 60 meter dash time this season Saturday, one of four national top 25 performances among seven first places by NSU competitors at the Pittsburg State Invitational indoor track and field meet.
Larkins blazed across in 6.63 and also posted the 19
th-best NCAA Division I time in the 200, 21.13, in a second-place finish.
Lady Demon senior hurdler
Daeshon Gordon ran the country's 20
th-best 60 meter hurdles time, 8.25, to win her specialty. Demons' sophomore
Quindarrius Thompson won the men's triple jump with a 51-1 leap that ranks 23
rd nationally.
NSU's other four wins came from Lady Demons senior
De'Shalyn Jones in the 200 (24.34), long jumper
Jasmyn Steels (19-6 ¾), sophomore sprinter
Natashia Jackson in the 400 (55.38) and Demons' high jumper
Tre' Evans (6-8 ¼).
The Demons had two silver medal finishes. Along with Larkins in the 200,
Ceaser Stephens gave NSU a 1-2 showing in the triple jump (50-4 ½).
Jones made another podium appearance for the Lady Demons with a third-place 7.60 mark in the 60 meter dash. She was also part of a bronze-medal 4x400 time (3:48.55) along with Gordon on the lead leg, Jackson on the third leg and
Widline Lageroy with the anchor leg.
Junior college transfer
Tremayne Flagler took fourth in the men's 60 hurdles (8.07).
Four NSU competitors captured fifth-place finishes:
Kyrin Tucker, shot put, 55-4, 1/4;
Quanese Jones-Young, women's high jump, 5-6 1/2;
Michael McGruder, men's 60 dash, 6.84; and Desmond Mapps, men's 200 dash, 21.67.
The next competition for the NSU men and women is next Friday at the LSU Bayou Bengal Invitational.
