HAMMOND – Currently on a six-game winning streak, and winning 10 of the last 12, the Northwestern State softball team travels to Southeastern Louisiana for a three-game Southland Conference series with the Lions beginning on Saturday at three o'clock at North Oak Park.

The Lady Demons (34-10 overall, 15-5 SLC) picked up series sweeps over Stephen F. Austin and Houston Baptist in the past two weekends, while the Lions (29-17 overall, 11-10 SLC) dropped a 1-2 series with Central Arkansas last weekend.
 
NSU holds possession of second place in league standings and have secured a conference tournament berth, just one-and-a-half games behind McNeese State, while Southeastern sits tied with Lamar for fifth place.
 
Sitting No. 6 in the nation in ERA at the present time, Kylie Roos (13-2) leads the Lady Demons from the circle. The Celina, Texas, product gave up the only run the Huskies could muster last weekend as she threw 14 complete innings, striking out 14 and allowing just 10 hits.
 
Brianna Rodriguez, Cassandra Barefield and Tara McKenney lead the Southland in doubles (16), home runs (12) and triples (6), respectively.
 
Rodriguez tied Misty Carraway's and Margaret Patterson's 16 doubles in a single season record at NSU, set in 1994 and 2006, with a double to right center on Sunday against HBU. Rodriguez also ranks 10^th in the nation with .36 doubles per game and posts a .386 average, collecting 37 RBI off of 54 hits.
 
Barefield also broke into the individual season record book at NSU as she rocked her 11^th and 12^th homers against SFA. The sophomore surpassed Ginger Craig, Erin Mancuso and Patterson as they posted 10 home runs in a single season in 1985, 2002 and 2005.
 
McKenney put herself in the books as well when she led off with a triple in the first inning of the series finale with the Ladyjacks, tying Craig's single season record set in 1987. McKenney sits second on the team with a .365 average and 57 hits.
 
For the Lions, Katie Lacour holds a .407 average, putting the ball into play 48 times, followed by Michelle Duhe with a .353 average, five triples and 12 RBI.
 
Rachael Hellyer (11-2) posts a .263 ERA, allowing 41 runs, 31 of them earned, in 82.2 innings. The Folsom, Calif. product has struck out 48, including a season-high seven batters against Centenary.

The Lady Demons return home on May 4 to host Sam Houston State to wrap up the regular season before hosting the Southland Conference tournament May 9-11 at the Lady Demon Diamond.
