HOUSTON – Nico Tagami's second singles win of the weekend highlighted the Northwestern State tennis team's final day of competition at the Rice Invitational on Sunday.
 
Tagami grabbed her second straight-set victory, downing Sam Houston's Emma Nordin, 7-5, 6-3 in the final match of the round-robin Flight 8 singles draw at the George R. Brown Tennis Center.
 
Tagami finished the weekend 2-1 in the draw with wins against a pair of Sam Houston opponents.
 
In addition to Tagami, two other Lady Demons were in action Sunday in the consolation finals of their respective flights.
 
Sophomore Martina Acebedo Bonocore fell to Louisiana Tech's Lucie Gallegos, 6-3, 6-3, in the Flight 3 consolation finals. Freshman Zala Vnuk dropped a straight-set decision to Tulane's Diana Badalayn, 6-2, 6-1 in Flight 7.
 
"It was a well-run tournament with a lot of good teams," fourth-year head coach Marcos Morelli said. "It exposed us in some areas, so we are coming back to Natchitoches with a lot of things to work on."
 
Northwestern returns to Texas for its third tournament of the fall season when it travels to San Marcos for the River State Shoot Out hosted by Texas State from Oct. 2-4.
