BATON ROUGE — The Northwestern State Lady Demons bounced back in a big way Sunday morning, earning a 6–1 victory over Xavier of Louisiana at the LSU Tennis Complex. 

Northwestern State (1-1) took control early by securing the doubles point with dominant performances at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions.  

The pairing of Pika Doberlet and Maria Farina cruised to a 6–0 win at No. 2 doubles against Ana Sabikova and Laura Lopez, while Martina Acebedo Bonocore and Athina Grigoriadou matched that score with a 6–0 victory at No. 3 against Anais Yakan and Valeria Ortega. 

The top doubles match between Lolita Hukasian and Honoka Umeda and Xavier's McKenna Wheatley and Maja Brnic was left unfinished at 3–3. 

The Lady Demons carried that momentum into singles play, winning five of the six matches to seal the team victory. 

Umeda led the way at the top of the lineup, posting a 6–0, 6–2 win over Sabikova at No. 1 singles.  

Farina followed with a 6–1, 6–4 victory against Brnic at the No. 2 spot, while Acebedo Bonocore earned a 6–3, 6–1 win over former Demon Ortega at No. 4 singles. 

Doberlet added another point with a 6–1, 6–1 decision over Yakan at No. 5, and Hukasian closed out the scoring with a 6–2, 6–2 win against Sanai LeSure at No. 6. 

Xavier's lone point came at No. 3 singles, where Wheatley edged Grigoriadou in a tight 6–3, 7–6(5) match. 

The win moves NSU to 1–1 on the season and wraps up a demanding opening weekend against two Louisiana programs. 

The Lady Demons stay on the road, this time taking their talents to Lafayette to take on the Ragin Cajuns on the Cajun Courts on Saturday. The first match is set for 2 p.m.
