SAN ANTONIO – The Northwestern State Lady Demons returned to action in dominant fashion, rolling past UIW 6-1 in Southland Conference play on Saturday at the Mabry Tennis Center.

After a 10-day break, the Lady Demons (5-6, 5-0) showed no signs of rust, winning five of six matches in singles play.

Northwestern State started off strong with a doubles victory.

The duo of Ayu Ishibashi and Sofi Garcia set the tone with a commanding 6-1 victory over Luciana Paez Hernandez and McKenzy Byfield.

Zoi Spyrou and Honoka Umeda followed up with a 6-3 win against Lyric Bonilla and Smilia Matovic, clinching the early advantage.

Meanwhile, Pika Doberlet and Tjasa Klevisar were tied 4-4 in their match before it was left unfinished, as NSU had already sealed the doubles point.

Spyrou battled through a tight contest against Lyric Bonilla, securing a 6-4, 6-4 victory at the No. 1 spot.

Klevisar delivered a strong 6-4, 6-1 performance over Smilia Matovic at the No. 3 position

At the No. 4 spot, Ishibashi was in top form, cruising past Luciana Paez Hernandez 6-2, 6-0.

Doberlet continued the Lady Demon's dominance, handling Amelie Montalvo 6-2, 6-2 at the No. 5 spot.

Garcia wrapped up the Lady Demons' day in singles, overcoming a 7-5, 6-2 match over McKenzy Byfield at the No. 6 spot.

The Cardinals secured a point with Estefania Gonzalez topping Umeda 6-3, 6-1 at the No. 2 spot.

With the win, the Lady Demons continue to build momentum as they travel to Beaumont on Monday at 11 a.m. to face Lamar.
