NEW ORLEANS—Sofi Garcia collected a straight-sets victory in singles, but the short-handed Northwestern State tennis team fell 6-1 at New Orleans on Saturday. 

Garcia logged NSU's (9-7, 2-3) lone point in the No. 4 singles spot, topping Ksenia Rezitskaya 6-0, 6-1. 

But the Privateers (7-8, 4-2) were too much against the short-handed Lady Demons. 

Junior Tjasa Klevisar and freshman Honoka Umeda captured NSU's only doubles win with a 7-5 victory over Anastassia Kouchnareva/Tristanne Dechoux. 

However, the Privateers took the doubles point with wins by Laurie Barende/Ksenia Rezniskaya over Garcia/Maria Farina (6-3), as well as the forfeit victory. 

In addition to Garcia's singles victory, Umeda took her opponent to three set in singles' play. 

She dominated the first set before losing the final two to Audelia Morin Kougoucheff (2-6, 7-5, 10-6) in the No. 5 slot. 

UNO won the other three matches in two sets. 

NSU travels to Nicholls on Monday before closing out the regular season with one final home match against Texas A&M – Corpus Christi on April 13 at 11 a.m.
