NATCHITOCHES – The Northwestern State tennis team ended its regular season at home on Saturday with a 7-0 loss against the SLC regular season champions, Texas A&M–Corpus Christi.
The Lady Demons (10-8, 3-4) were able to put pressure on Corpus Christi but it was not enough to defeat the Islanders.
Corpus Christi took the doubles point fairly quickly with a 6-2 win on No. 1 and a win by default on No. 3.
On No. 2, doubles partners Sofi Garcia and Maria Farina fought their way back from being down 3-0 to win 7-6.
In singles, Sara Erenda went up 2-0 in the first set at No. 3 before dropping six straight games to end the set 6-2.
On No. 2, Farina fell to Naomi Moi McKenzie in straight sets, 6-0, 6-1.
Tjasa Klevisar fell 6-2 in the first set but was able to tie Emma Aucagne at four before dropping the final two games in the second set.
In the No. 5 slot, Honoka Umeda challenged Kateryna Rublevska in the first set but ultimately fell 7-5. Umeda continued to pressure her opponent in the second set, matching every game before falling 6-4.
After emerging victorious in her doubles match, Garcia fell in straight sets, 7-5, 7-2.
The Lady Demons head to San Antonio to compete in the Southland Conference Tournament, which begins Thursday morning at the McFarlin Tennis Center.
