LAKE CHARLES – Northwestern State was unable to edge a comeback in a 5-2 defeat to McNeese on Tuesday.

Honoka Umeda got the Lady Demons (8-6, 1-2) on the board grabbing a straight set victory in the No. 5 position, 7-6, 6-1.

NSU's only other point came in the No. 4 slot, with Sofi Garcia defeating Emma-Lou Pommiers.

Garcia took the first set 6-3 before dropping the second set. She came back to win the third set, and the match, with a 6-4 final to top Pommiers.

The Cowgirls quickly took the doubles point with a win on No. 2 to start the day.

The Lady Demons pair of Tjasa Klevisar and Umeda were ableto secure a win on No. 1 doubles court, 6-4.

NSU only competed on two doubles courts and five singles courts instead of the typical three doubles matches and six singles due to a string of injuries on the roster. 

The Lady Demons head to Hammond on Saturday for their third of five straight Southland Conference road matches against Southeastern Louisiana.
