NATCHITOCHES – Northwestern State, eager to take to the courts and extend its five match win streak to six.

NSU (6-2) made short work of Grambling on Saturday afternoon, notching a 6–0 victory over the Tigers at the Jack Fisher Tennis Complex.

With the Tigers (0-8) only having five players, the Lady Demons only had to win one court to clinch the doubles point.

NSU dominated the doubles point to begin the match, winning on both courts in less than 30 minutes.

Doubles pair Tjasa Klevisar and Paige Wise defeated Takudzwa Mawisire and Ekateria Dziova of GSU, 6-0 in doubles position No. 3.

Sofi Garcia and Sara Erenda dominated on court two with a 6-0 victory against Jovana Latinovic and Claire Machisa.

"We wanted most points to come from being aggressive," head coach Marcos Morelli said. "We focused on that and I think our girls did great."

In singles, Garcia and Honoka Umeda swept their opponents, triumphing 6-0 in both sets, to clinch the victory.

Erenda allowed one game in the first set and then defeated Leah Bryant 6-3 to take the second.

Klevisar was up 2-1 on court No. 1 before winning four straight games to win 6-1 in the first set and had a dominant 6-1 performance in the second.


"I play my style and that helps me when my confidence." said Klevisar. 

On court No. 2, Wise had a 6-1, 6-1, straight-set victory to sweep the match for NSU.

The Lady Demons have a tight turnaround, as they are set to host Louisiana Tech at 1 p.m. on Sunday.

"We want to compete every point and every court," said Morelli. "We want to be tough."
