NATCHITOCHES – Having finally found the momentum they have been searching for, the Northwestern State tennis team is looking to expand on its first conference win of the season.
The Lady Demons (9-7 overall, 1-2 SLC) are set to host McNeese (12-3, 2-1 SLC) Sunday at 11 a.m. at the Jack Fisher Tennis Complex.
Mariella Minetti has found her winning ways as she helped NSU defeat Lamar Friday 5-2.
Minetti has won all three of her singles matches in league action, including a win in straight sets against Lamar at the No. 5 position, 6-2, 6-3
She was also paired with Paige Wise for doubles and only allowed one game from the Cardinals' double team before their game was called at 4-1.
Wise finished off the victory against Lamar in three sets at No. 3.
Renske Ubachs, freshman from The Netherlands, has shown her abilities in doubles with partner Dorota Szczygielska. The pairing is 10-5, playing the majority on No. 3.
Tjasa Klevisar is 10-4 in singles, with seven on those wins occurring at the top slot.
Klevisar clinched the win for the Lady Demons on Friday winning singles in straight sets 7-6, 6-3.
In the series against McNeese (12-3, 2-1), NSU is leading 36-14. The Lady Demons have won the last three match ups. The last match was held in Lake Charles and NSU defeated the Cowgirls 6-1.
McNeese is coming into the match off a 6-1 loss at Southeastern, which snapped a five-match winning streak.
All six of the Cowgirls main singles players have collected at least eight victories. Maria Wang Martinez has dominated the back half of the rotation for McNeese, going 14-1 and has won nine in a row, including all three in league play at the No. 5 singles spot.
