NATCHITOCHES – Northwestern State played like a team seeking revenge, as it exacted revenge on NJIT for defeating them in the 2022 Southland Conference Tournament with a 6-1 victory Tuesday afternoon at the Jack Fisher Tennis Complex. 
 

NSU (7-4) began the day by dominating the doubles point. 
 

"The doubles point is not just one point," said head coach Jonas Brobeck. "It sets the tone for the match and we carried that momentum into singles play." 
 

Dorota Szczygielska and Renske Unbachs took the lead in doubles against Laura Wipfi and Sandra Dzhambazov 6-3. 
 

The final two matches came down to the wire, but the Lady Demons came away with a victory to earn the point. 

Doubles pairing Tjasa Klevisar and Ayu Ishibashi defeated their opponent to clinch the doubles point 6-4. 

NSU led the final match 5-4 before the clinching match finished. 
 

Klevisar picked up her seventh win in singles. She used the momentum from doubles to secure the first singles point of the match at No.1, 6-1, 6-3. 
 

Ishibashi dominated at No. 2 against Laura Wipfli in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3. 
 

Szczygielska secured the match for the Lady Demons at No. 5 against Irene Cocero 6-2 6-3. 
 

"We completely dominated today," said sophomore Paige Wise. "It was a tough team and we out and put pressure from the start and the results show it." 
 

Wise swept the first set 6-0 at No. 3 against Joleta Budiman, but Budiman came into the second set with power and forced a super tie breaker, one in which Wise earned the victory, 10-7. 
 

Garcia finished off a strong showing for the Lady Demons by taking her match in straight sets against NJIT's Shalom Salvi. She controlled the first set, winning 6-3, before she came away with a nip-and-tuck 7-5 victory to come away with the triumph. 
 

The Lady Demons return to Jack Fisher Tennis Complex on Saturday at 1 p.m. against Alcorn for the last non-conference match-up.
