MONROE, La. – Behind Tjasa Klevisar's deciding singles victory, Northwestern State has defeated UL-Monroe for the first time since 2010 with a tight 4-3 road triumph. 

"We always have tough matches with our north Louisiana rivals," head coach Jonas Brobeck said. "I'm happy we came out on the right side today after a long and physical match." 
 

With the match tied 3-3, Klevisar came back to win her final two sets after dropping the first to win the match and clinch the triumph for the Lady Demons. 
 

Klevisar kept her singles winning streak alive with that three-set win against Alice Klinteby. 
 

NSU (5-1) lost the doubles point for the second time this season but came back to win four of the six matches in singles for the comeback victory. 
 

"We started flat today and dug ourselves into a bit of a hole," said Brobeck. "That's tough to get yourself out of when you play good teams, but we found a way. The positive is that we still have a lot of things we can do better." 
 

Dorota Szczygielska continues to dominate in both acts of the team match, as she has won four of her last five singles matches. Szczygielska and Ubachs are 4-1 in doubles matches, with the set against ULM going unfinished. 
 

Szczygielska (6-1, 6-2), Ubachs (6-0, 6-2), and Sofi Garcia (6-2, 6-3) claimed their points in straight sets. 
 

NSU heads to Texas at the end of the week for a pair of weekend matches against UTSA and Texas State. 
 

"It's going to be two great tests for our Lady Demons, but we are ready," Brobeck said. "Matches like this, against ULM, will prepare us for the two quality matches we have in Texas." 
 

The Lady Demons will return to Natchitoches March 14 at 1 pm, to start conference play against NJIT.
