SAN MARCOS, Texas – Two event wins and four personal bests highlighted Northwestern State's participation Friday on a field-heavy first day of the Charles Austin Classic at Texas State.
Nikaoli Williams leapt to a long jump win with a personal record 24-10.75. Teammate
Andrew Gilreath snatched second with a 23-7.
The Lady Demons logged the top three javelin marks with
Carnitra Mackey leading the way at 132-11.75.
Ashley Duffus (130-0.25) and
Akira Phillip (121-2.75) were in two on second and third place, respectively.
NSU crowded the top of the women's pole vault with the three top collegiate finishers.
Annemarie Broussard cleared 13-1.5,
Karlyn Trahan and
Madison Brown vaulted over 12-1.75. Trahan's mark is a personal record.
Male counterpart
Hayden Barrios topped a season-high 16-3 to finish as the second-best collegian.
In the hammer throw,
Diamante Gumbs logged a 154-9 to place fifth.
Jaslyn Smith leapt 17-6.75 followed by
Orsciana Beard's personal record of 17-5.5 to finish fifth and sixth among collegians.
In the lone running event in which NSU participated,
Payten Vidourek missed a 1500 meters event win by less a tenth of a second when he logged a 4:05.70, missing out by .07.
The bulk of events take place Saturday on the second and final day of the Charles Austin Classic.
