NATCHITOCHES – The Northwestern State tennis team compiled its third shutout of the season Saturday as the Lady Demons blanked Texas State, 7-0.
 
NSU (5-3) won its third straight match and has a combined 18-3 point total in that stretch.
 
The Lady Demons swept the doubles point as Mariella Minetti and Patrycja Polanska disposed of Texas State's Chacadyah Israel-Lewis and Josefina Cassara 6-1.
 
NSU clinched the point 6-2 with Judit Castillo Gargallo and Dorota Szczygielska over Andrea Fuchs and Alyssa Zayat. The Lady Demons have won six of the eight doubles points this season.
 
In singles play, NSU won four of the six matches in straight sets against Texas State (4-2).
 
"This was a solid team victory," said NSU coach Patric DuBois. "All of our girls not only competed well, they executed at a high level today.
 
"I felt we came out strong and aggressive in doubles, which carried over into singles."
 
Ela Iwaniuk (6-1, 6-1) topped Hana Kvapilova to push NSU's lead to 2-0 in the No. 2 position.
 
The back end of the singles rotation came through next as points from Olivia Alfredsson (6-1, 6-4 over Renata Gonzalez) and Castillo Gargallo (6-2, 6-1 over Zayat) in the No. 5 and No. 6 slots.
 
After not officially being credited with the win Friday in the win over Alcorn, she now earned singles win No. 46 in her career, tying Monica Isaza for 18^th place in program history.
 
Castillo's point clinched the win.
 
Szczygielska won the only set that went extras in a 7-5, 6-2 victory against Cassara.
 
Minetti (1-6, 6-3, 6-3 against Rishona Israel-Lewis) and Polanska (6-0, 3-6, 6-2 against Fuchs) each overcame losing sets to finish the sweep.
 
NSU continues its four-game homestand with Southern Miss on Feb. 21 and UTSA on Feb. 23.
