NATCHITOCHES—On the final day of the Natchitoches Women's Care/Lady Demon Invitational, it was a veteran and a newcomer who stood out, as senior Emilija Dancetovic and freshman Olivia Alfredsson won their draws in straight sets at the Jack Fisher Tennis Complex.

"We are very happy about the first tournament of the fall that we hosted," head coach Patric DuBois said. "We felt all our players did a good job of competing all weekend. It was nice to secure a few championships as well, but more than that, the way we played showed we are improving and willing to play outside our comfort zone."

Dancetovic began the day with a dominant 6-0, 6-0 victory against Julia Khamula of Tyler Junior College to win the Black Draw singles.

Alfredsson also took care of her opponent, winning 7-6 (3), 6-2 against UL Lafayette's Anna Katherine Harvey.

In addition to the singles wins, two doubles pairings won their matches as well.

The duo of Judit Castillo Gargallo and Patrycja Polanska won their draw and the freshmen pairing of Alfredsson and Mariella Minetti won all of their matches in a round robin format.

Castillo Gargallo and Polanska defeated Tyler Junior College's Yu Yue and Momoko Yoshimura 6-3 in the semifinals of the before knocking off UL Lafayette's Floraine Picaut and Lucie Raquin 6-4 to win the White doubles championship.

Alfredsson and Minetti won their matches Saturday in convincing fashion. They began their doubles day with a 6-1 Teodora Mitrovic and Polina Steptsova (SLU) before winning 6-3 against Stephen F. Austin's Armelle Cerdan and Elena Bleicher.

Senior Ela Iwaniuk dropped her championship match to Central Arkansas' Maja Gledic 7-5, 6-0.

Castillo Gargallo won a close third-place match in the Black singles draw, 6-4, 3-6, 10-7 against SLU's Kim Bohlen.

Polanska finished fourth in her draw, dropping a 7-5, 6-2 decision to Houston's Elena Tairyan.

"While we saw some good things from each player, we also saw some things that we need to improve, which is our goal in the fall individual season," DuBois said. "We plan to have a good week of practice, compete in Arkansas next weekend, and evaluate again at that point."

The Lady Demons continue their Fall season next Friday when they head to Conway for the UCA Invitational.
