NATCHITOCHES -- Northwestern State track continues to strengthen their ranks with another pair of impressive signees.
The Demons and Lady Demons are adding a six time NJCAA All-American on the men's side and a Texas-San Antonio transfer on the women's.
Junior Charles is a JUCO transfer from South Plains College where he competed in the 200 and 400 meter distances. He took a bronze finish at the 2018 Indoor National Championships in his specialty distance and was also a member of the 4x400 relay team that took silver.
"Junior might be the best overall 400m prospect on paper NSU has ever signed," Coach
Adam Pennington said. "I think he will come in right away and have a chance to break the school record and compete at the national level.
"With the addition of early signee Kennedy Harrison from Desoto High boasting similar PRs, I believe these two will be great training partners. This definitely will fill in some gaps we were missing."
Charles ran a 46.57 in his bronze indoor championship but has a personal best of 46.38, which would rank him third all-time at NSU, and a 20.89 time in the 200.
Erin Wilson joins the Lady Demons track team after a year at Texas-San Antonio, where she too competed in the 400-meter distance.
"Erin is a transfer from UTSA with huge upside," Pennington said. "She will have a huge advantage with the amount of talent we have in the women's 400 to improve and be a valuable asset. I'm extremely excited to watch her come in and battle with these ladies and this conference."
The Pflugerville, Texas native turned in her personal best time of 55.56 in her signature distance at the UTSA Invitational last season.
She had three other top-10 finishes in the 400 along with a pair of bronze times as a member of the 4x400 relay team.
